  • Research & policy: FACE has been focusing extensively on policy research and is engaged in policy analysis, program evaluation and impact studies.
  • Projects: FACE works on projects in the PPP mode, to develop business models that are scalable and replicable across geographies.
  • Value chain assessments: Comprises commodity specific value chain assessments and supply chain advisory services for food and agri businesses.
  • Training & Capacity building: A series of capacity building, training and consultancy initiatives are undertaken under FACE.
    • FACE reached out to over 20,000 people with Food Safety Trainings, Assessments and in – Company interventions during 2018.
    • 1500+ stakeholders reached out through cold chain awareness workshops across the country along with NCCD.
  • Advanced tech program: Considering the critical need for innovation, and technology in moving the agricultural production frontier several notches up, FACE has launched the Ag-Tech program in 2015. Under the program the endeavor is to work with innovators, entrepreneurs and start-ups towards the scalability and commercialization of emerging technologies in agriculture.
    The key components of the program include:
    • Global Dialogue on Advanced Technologies focused on sharing innovations and International Collaboration for advancement in innovation and technologies.
    • Network of Agri-startups, Venture financiers and Incubators (NAVI) for handholding innovators, entrepreneurs and start-ups and provide them an opportunity to showcase their technology accompanied by a session to pitch before a distinguished jury to mobilize funding and secure potential incubation opportunities and ongoing industry mentoring.
  • Promoting excellence: focused on creating a culture of excellence two awards are operational under FACE
    • To stimulate best in class food safety and quality practices in the country FACE conducts the CII Food Safety Award annually. The awards model has been evolving and has seen a 11 fold increase since inception, with over 70% being from the small and medium food sector attracting participation from across the country.
    • With a view to recognize individual/organizations for preeminence and outstanding contributions to the field of cold chain management including warehouse, logistics and policy systems and to raise awareness with regard to sustainable success and competitiveness through best practices, CII has institutionalized the National Cold Chain Awards.
  • To expand its services portfolio several new initiatives have been launched under the umbrella of FACE over the past 2 years. These include
  • CII-HUL Initiative on Food Safety Sciences (CHIFSS) in partnership with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was launched with the purpose of driving science based food safety.
  • CII-IADSA Resource Centre for Health Supplements & Nutraceuticals (ReCHaN) in collaboration with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been working towards achieving global excellence in a science-based ecosystem for the sector.
  • Cold chain Knowledge Hub-(Cool Idea) to overcome the challenges faced by the cold chain industry through innovation, development, exploration and by catalyzing investment.
  • FACE has been working closely with Ministries and Government agencies. Over the years FACE has also developed national and international partnerships with UC Davis (in post harvest technology); University of Maryland (in Food Safety and Nutrition); Fraunhofer (in IOT & Sensors); Tel Aviv University (in plant sciences and Food safety); Agriculture Research Organization at Volcani Center, Tel Aviv Israel (Post harvest and Food Sciences) and IIT Kharagpur (food technology) to name a few.
  • The efforts of FACE have delivered encouraging results on ground and impacting businesses positively. Some of the key highlights are-
  • Training & Certification programs: Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) program has helped Food Business Operators achieve supervision targets as recommended by the regulator.
  • Awareness workshops: Awareness trainings on different cold chain schemes, cold chain operations, optimization of processes, commodity specific interventions have helped reduce value chain losses.
  • Recognizing excellence: FACE awards have helped companies establish a roadmap for strengthening food safety management systems at their plant level.
  • Recognition to Start-ups: During the Startup pitch 2018, Indian Angel Network, has selected six innovators for due diligence and possible investment opportunities.
